Meet the Founders

Maven Tutors is led by sisters Nita and Nisha, who share a lifelong love of literature, language and helping children find confidence in their own voice.

Inspired by the books they swapped, the stories they loved and their grandfather’s storytelling, they grew up believing in the power of language to spark imagination, build confidence and open doors.

Nita founded Maven Tutors after more than 20 years teaching in UK state and independent schools. As an 11+ English specialist, she loves helping children enjoy learning, master strategies to answer complex questions and experience those breakthrough moments with children as they progress.

Nisha brings many years of 11+ tutoring experience, alongside a background in coaching, communication and confidence-building. She helps students develop the self-belief to challenge themselves, keep going when learning feels difficult and grow into the standards needed for 11+ success.

They know the worries parents often bring to the 11+: a child who forgets vocabulary as quickly as they learn it, finds inference questions frustrating, or seems far more confident in maths than English. They also know how hard it can be to find the time, energy and right approach to help at home. Maven is built around partnership, so parents feel guided and supported, not left alone trying to piece everything together.

Nita believes in more than just exam prep — her fun, encouraging, and thorough approach ensures that every child enjoys the learning journey while gaining the skills they need to succeed. Her mastery method helps students feel proud of their progress, ready to tackle the 11+ with confidence, and fully prepared for life at grammar or independent schools.

Together, Nita and Nisha have shaped Maven Tutors to give families a calm, structured and supportive route through the 11+. NITA

I’m Nita, the founder of Maven Tutors and an 11+ English specialist with over 20 years of experience teaching in UK state and independent schools. There’s nothing more rewarding than helping children fall in love with reading, express themselves clearly and find their own voice. These essential skills not only prepare students for the 11+ exam but stay with them as they navigate an ever-changing world.

At Maven Tutors, our approach is fun, thorough and full of encouragement. We don’t believe in cramming. Instead, we prioritise building confidence, closing gaps and helping students shine in their 11+ exams by first making sure they enjoy the journey. Our mastery approach gives students the knowledge and skills to feel proud of their progress and prepared for highly competitive schools. Even after all this time, there’s something incredibly special about seeing those first-day photos of our students stepping into their top-choice grammar or independent schools, ready to start their next adventure!

When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me curled up with a book, wandering through nature or at a dance fitness class, trying to keep up with the instructor!

Nisha Modha

I’m Nisha, co-founder of Maven Tutors, with long-standing experience supporting children through 11+ English preparation and helping them build the skills, confidence and exam technique they need.

My strength is helping children see a clear path through the 11+. English can feel vague when students do not know what examiners are looking for or how to improve. I break tricky skills into clear steps so children can make steady progress.

At Maven Tutors, I work with Nita and our teaching team to design structured, purposeful lessons. We help children think clearly, tackle tricky questions with confidence and express themselves clearly.

Children do their best when they feel supported, challenged and understood. That is what we create at Maven: a calm, encouraging environment where students build confidence for the 11+ and beyond.

When I’m not working on Maven, I’m usually planning lessons, coaching leaders, or forming the next Maven idea with Nita over a very necessary cup of tea!

Jasmine

Hello, I’m Jasmine Waked, a high school English teacher and private tutor with over eight years of experience. I hold a Master’s degree in English Linguistics, a specialised teaching diploma, and a TESOL certificate.

I have experience teaching English Language and Literature across UK and international curricula, helping students build confidence, strengthen their skills, and achieve their academic goals.

The most rewarding part of teaching for me is seeing students grow in confidence and discover what they are capable of. I strive to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and enjoying the learning process.

My lessons are interactive, student-centred, and tailored to each student’s individual needs, interests, and goals. Using a combination of clear explanations, engaging activities, guided practice, and personalised feedback, I aim to make learning both enjoyable and meaningful.

JESS

I have been a teacher for over 13 years now, working mainly across key stage two in both state and independent schools. In the last few years, my focus has been on teaching the core subjects and I am currently working with Year 6.  When teaching English, I particularly like working with children to develop their creative and descriptive writing skills, as well as writing poetry. Maths was a subject that I felt less confident in when I was at school, so I am passionate about helping children to develop not only their mathematical knowledge and understanding, but also their confidence using the methods they have been taught. I really enjoy teaching Science and, as head of the subject in my current school, I love seeing children participating in experiments that create moments of awe and wonder.

I think the best thing about tutoring is being able to support children individually or in a small group, in order to overcome a difficulty or challenge. When they feel a sense of achievement and increased confidence this is very rewarding.

Outside of work, my favourite hobby is horse riding and I like to explore the countryside with my horse at the weekend, when I can find the time! I also love to travel and have been fortunate enough to visit many different countries, including a more extended period of travel around South-East Asia. I now have two young children of my own so I appreciate the juggle of working parents who face the challenges of trying to balance work and family life!

GILLIAN

I’m a fully qualified Scottish primary school teacher with five years of classroom experience, as well as two years of online teaching. My strengths lie in building positive relationships with my pupils — I believe learning should be fun, and that children are most motivated when they’re enjoying themselves!
I create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all my learners, and I’m passionate about helping children succeed and grow in confidence through positive, engaging experiences.
Fun facts about me:
I love animals, and you’ll often spot one of my cats wandering into view during lessons!
